Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum, world marathon record holder with a time of 2.00:35, American Noah Lyles, double world champion at 100m and 200m, and Sweden's Armand Duplantis, world pole vault and Diamond League champion, are three of the five candidates announced by World Athletics for 'Best Athlete of the Year', an award that will be presented on December 11 at a gala in Monaco.
The other two candidates are USA's Ryan Crouser, this year's world champion in Budapest and world record holder in the shot put with 23.56m, and India's Neeraj Chopra, world javelin champion and winner of the Asian Games.

World Athletics also announced in their press release that they are running a competition that will allow someone to attend the award ceremony in Monaco.
The winner of the VIP trip will get to spend three nights in the Principality from December 9 to December 11, while they will also be able to meet some of the athletes in attendance.
