Bayern Munich's seven-goal triumph over Manchester United
Bayern Munich held on to claim a 4-3 victory over Manchester United on Wednesday night after a late flurry of goals almost saw the English giants claim an unlikely point.
A howler from Andre Onana helped Bayern open the scorin g, with Serge Gnabry doubling the advantage soon after.Although Rasmus Hojlund's first goal for United reopened proceedings after the break, a Harry Kane penalty restored the advantage soon after.
While Casemiro's late strike reopened proceedings, Mathys Tel looked to have put the game to rest minutes later, only for the Brazilian to head home another.
United had a big chance after just four minutes when Christian Eriksen squared it for Facundo Pellistri, only for Alphonso Davies to strip him of the ball from close range.
However it was Bayern who opened the scoring, and they did so thanks to a howler from Onana. Leroy Sane played a one-two with Harry Kane before firing a first time shot on goal.
The effort was low and straight at Onana, but somehow the United goalkeeper let it slip through.
Things went from bad to worse for United soon after when Bayern doubled its advantage. Jamal Musiala cut inside Diogo Dalot from the left before pulling back for Gnabry, who fired into the bottom corner past a rooted Onana.
Bayern almost added a third before the break, Leroy Sane controlling a cross field ball with his head before curling his effort just wide of the post.
Hojlund gives Man United hope
Manchester United cut the deficit in half minutes after the restart with summer signing Hojlund opening his account. Marcus Rashford picked out the Danish striker, who wrong footed Sven Ulreich and fired home.
However the advantage was soon restored when Bayern were awarded a penalty after Dayot Upamecano's header came off Eriksen's arm. Although Onana went the right way, Kane fired beyond his reach and into the bottom corner.
From there Bayern controlled proceedings, with Onana called into action on more than one occasion to keep United's hopes of getting something from the match alive.
United clawed one back with minutes remaining after Anthony Martial picked out Casemiro, who reacted quickly while on the ground and hooked the ball into the bottom corner.
Bayern thought they had killed off the match once and for all after Thomas Muller hit the post, with Mathys Tel controlling the rebound and firing into the roof of the net. However, Casemiro headed home a late third for United, though it proved too little too late.
