Mike Tyson declares himself a fan of Jake Paul: You're the champion, you're my hero
Despite having defeated Nate Diaz by unanimous decision in a 10-round fight on August 5, Jake Paul continues to struggle to convince his detractors in his still budding career as a professional boxer.
Beyond his qualities or limitations inside the ring, he has found his main supporter in a legend of this sport, Mike Tyson, who took advantage of his participation in the Netflix documentary "Untold: Jake Paul the Problem Child" to express his support for the YouTuber.
"Listen, he did more for boxing than some of the champions did," Tyson said.
"I'm a fan of people that know how to put asses in seats. Those are the guys I look up to.
"So we gotta keep this guy bright 'cause he's gonna save boxing as long as he continues to fight. He got the light, you know what I mean? He's touched. He got the light."
This isn't the first time Tyson has words of encouragement for Paul, who had already been praised by Iron Mike in 2020 after his exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr..
"Listen, my ego says so many things, but my reality is they help boxing so much," Tyson noted.
"These guys making boxing alive. Boxing was pretty much a dying sport, so UFC was kicking our butt, and now we have these YouTube boxers. Boxing is getting 25 million views. Boxing is going back thanks to the YouTube boxers."
Jake Paul's boxing record
Since entering the boxing world in 2020, Paul has a record of seven victories and only one loss against Tommy Fury by split decision in February of this same year.
In 2022, he defeated the Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter Anderson Silva, bringing his record to 6-0. This victory was underestimated by the press and fans due to the 22-year age difference between them.
What's next for Jake Paul?
Following the Diaz fight two weeks ago, Paul agreed to an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) rematch with the former UFC fighter, although this event is not yet official.
