Now with Messi, and indeed a new boss in Tata Martino, Inter Miami are suddenly firing on all cylinders. Messi's goals are going viral worldwide, but so are his curious celebrations.
Messi has been celebrating with Marvel signals, and his latest was a tribute to Marvel superhero Thor, as confirmed by his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo.
While the Barcelona legend may simply be a Marvel fan, there are now conspiracy theories emerging on the internet over the motive behind the celebrations.
The money theory
After following a Wakanda Forever celebration with a Thor version, fans burst into speculation on social media, and some seemed to find a motive.
One fan posted a special edition Thor-themed Adidas Marvel ball that is being sold in the United States for as much as $170. It's claimed Messi's celebrations could be part of a promotional campaign on behalf of Adidas, who sponsor the superstar.
Adidas also has a Captain America version of the Marvel ball, and it's not yet clear whether they will release more versions. Although, the Captain America version is available in many stores for much cheaper than the $170 price tag for the Thor edition on the Adidas store.
Messi is back in action this Sunday when Inter Miami take on FC Dallas in the Leagues Cup, and if he scores a sixth goal for his new South Florida club, all eyes will be on his celebration to see which superhero is next to get a tribute.
