Strickland dominates Magomedov at UFC Vegas 76 wants Adesanya next
Sean Strickland (27-5-0) dominated Abus Magomedov (25-5-1) Saturday night at UFC Vegas 76 via a second-round TKO stoppage at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and will now set his sights on challenging Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title belt.
Strickland, 32, suffered an eye poke early on in the fight, but went on to dominate the contest. Magomedov turned his back for a second and the rest is history.
The referee stopped the contest with 40 second left in the second round of the five-frame bout and said during his postfight pinterview that he's ready for Adesanya.
"I want the title," Strickland simply stated when asked what's next for him.
Adesanya, 33, has several challengers for the middleweight championship, so Strickland might have to wait a bit longer.
Strickland disses Magomedov
Strickland acknowledged Magomedov got off to a quick start, but then dissed him by saying he threw "little Peter Pan kicks."
"At the end of the day, we've got five rounds of fun," Strickland said. "I ain't slowing down, I ain't stopping. You want to go have a good first round, you wrestle and throw some little Peter Pan kicks, bring it! We've got two, three, four, and five!"
While Strickland only needed two rounds to win, he made it quite clear that there's a huge gap in talent compared to Magomedov, who is now 1-1-0 in the UFC.
For now, it's up to UFC president Dana White to grant Strickland his wish, but the American gfighter has at least already proven he's ready.
