Los Angeles Angels could lose Shohei Ohtani: Yankees on alert
With the Major League Baseball trade deadline fast approaching, a number of moves are expected with sides vying for various objectives.
One name that is dominating the rumour mill is that of Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani, with the Japanese pitcher and hitter a shock contender to be traded this summer.
Ohtani won the American League player of the month award, bolstered by a superb display against the Chicago White Sox in a 2-1 win for the Angels.
In that game, he hit a massive 446-foot home run to right field, his 11th home run in his previous 19 games.
New York Yankees on alert
The New York Yankees are fighting to keep their season goals in tact. With star outfielder Aaron Judge out of action with a torn ligament in his toe, the Yankees are considering a shock move to maintain their playoff hopes.
The Japanese star will be a free agent this winter if he doesn't sign a new deal, so the big clubs of MLB are on alert.
However, given his importance to the Angels, it would be a surprise if they did not do their utmost to tie him down to a long-term deal.
