First criticism of Wembanyama in the NBA for his physique: He's soft, he looks like Bambi or a baby giraffe
Glen 'Big Baby' Davis, an NBA player from 2007 to 2015, is one of the first critical voices raised against Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs after his debut in the NBA Summer League.
In his NBA debut the French colossus hit 18 points (41 percent shooting from the field), 10 rebounds and 4 blocks in 27 minutes on average in his two games in the NBA Summer League.
The former member of the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic and Clippers, called the No.1 pick in the 2023 Draft "soft" and picked on the body of the French prodigy whom LeBron James himself dubbed an "alien" for his spectacular physical and technical conditions at 2.23 meters tall.
"The kid looked like a little Bambi...a little baby giraffe," said the ever-talkative Glen Davis in words reported by Ben Golliver of the Washington Post.
"I don't think Wembanyama can handle all that suffering," the 37-year-old former player noted.
Interestingly Wembanyama stated after his Spurs debut in the NBA Summer League that "the game is still less physical than in France".
Who is Glen Davis, the NBA's 'Big Baby'?
Davis was a standout player at LSU in the NCAA who came to the NBA as the 35th overall pick in the 2007 Draft.
The power forward from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who struggled throughout his career with weight problems, played for the Celtics, Magic and Clippers, averaging 8 points and 4.4 rebounds.
Davis became more famous for his off-court incidents than for his on-court performance: one day Kevin Garnett made him cry, he was arrested for drug trafficking, he could have been sentenced to seven years in prison after being formally charged with beating up a man outside a nightclub in Los Angeles.
