Draymond Green explains complicated relationship with Chris Paul: I'm looking forward to man-to-man talks
Draymond Green says he and Chris Paul will have some talks before the upcoming season, as the two prepare to be teammates for the first time.
Paul was acquired by the Golden State Warriors in a trade that saw Jordan Poole go the other way.
While Green and Poole had their own issues after the former punched the latter prior to the start of last season, Draymond also has some history with Paul.
"I don't like CP at all - like we don't have a good relationship at all" resurfaced after Golden State's move to acquire the 12-time All-Star," Green previously stated.
Green says he and Paul will have to talk
Speaking on Patrick Beverley's "Pat Bev Podcast", Green acknowledged that the two aren't necessarily on the same page just because they are now teammates.
"Me and Chris have had our differences over the course of my 11 years playing in this league," Green said.
"He's not changing who he is at this point. I'm not changing who I am at this point and I think it's very important for people to understand that.
"The same sentiments I have about Chris - they don't just leave. And the same sentiments Chris had about me, they don't just leave. And I think that's where people get things so f-ed up, is like all of a sudden you've gotta fake this thing. Nah.
"What I've always respected about Chris is his tenacity, his will to win and his competitiveness. Now I have an opportunity to be alongside that."
Green added that their previous issues are rooted in respect given they both play with tenacity, but also said he's looking forward to speaking with Paul before the start of the season.
"With Chris, everyone's like 'how are they supposed to be teammates now?' And I'll tell you how - number one, I've never been in a situation really to even build a relationship with him," said Green.
"I'm an adult, Chris is an adult. We can talk amongst men, and that, I look forward to. There's no sugarcoating what's happened in the past few years - this is real life.
"I've publicly said I didn't like Chris before, I'm not going to say 'oh that changed because that's my teammate.' No! I look forward to talking amongst men. I look forward to working with another adult."
