David Beckham almost slips over ahead of Lionel Messi welcome speech
David Beckham is renowned for being a very calm and collected celebrity, someone that is widely regarded as a style icon that has spanned generations.
Even people like Beckham can blow their cover, though, and that is what happened ahead of his speech to welcome Lionel Messi to Inter Miami, with the move finally being officially confirmed in full.
David Beckham and Jorge Mas slip during Messi's presentation
Messi was officially unveiled to his new adoring fans on Sunday night having made the move to MLS from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
There was a big ceremony in Florida with live music but it was delayed due to the torrential rain and lightning storm. They still managed to get the event done, and as Beckham made his way onto the field via a walkway, he slipped and lost his balance, almost hitting the deck.
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas was quick to mimic Beckham's outstretched arms as he sought to steady himself. Based on how long he slid for even after regaining his balance, it was not a walkway that should have been used in the wet.
Beckham's emotional speech
It was a huge day for Beckham and the club and he gave a very emotional speech to the crowd.
"10 years ago, I started my journey to build a new MLS team. I said then that I dreamt of bringing the best players in the world Florida and the great city of Miami," Beckham began.
"Players who shared our ambition to grow soccer in this country, who would inspire the next generation and help build a legacy in this sport.
"Please forgive me for feeling a little bit emotional tonight. It really is a dream come true to welcome Lionel Messi to Inter Miami.
"Leo, we are so proud you have chosen this club for the next stage of your career. Welcome to the family."
