Who is Rose Zhang, the young American golfer who has won praise from Tiger Woods?
One of the hottest up-and-coming names in golf right now is Rose Zhang. The young star has made her debut at the Mizuho Americas Open.
She is already in first place and is two strokes ahead of the competition heading into the final round. One of the major helps for Zhang during the tournament has been her caddy, veteran golf star Jason Gilroyed.
Gilroyed began his career as a caddie in the LPGA in 1996 at the Edmonton Country Club. He has got a lot of experience on the golf course and he is clearly a great help to Zhang.
Gilroyed has been the caddy for Rosie Jones, Minjee Lee, Alison Lee and other big LPGA golfers. He has helped individuals win major honours in the past, such as the 2022 US Women's Open with Minjee Lee.
He has had his fair share of controversy, being sacked by Jessica Korda mid-way through a tournament and replaced by her then-boyfriend.
He said at the time: "US Open. Midway through the third round, and she fires me. It was crazy. She was mad at me. She said that she needed me to talk to her more on the course."
Zhang and Gilroyed's story
Zhang and Gilroyed first met when she was golfing at Stanford. Gilroyed had a son in the same class as Zhang and after meeting over dinner, it led to him caddying for her.
Talking about Zhang's performance, he said: "She shot 4 under pretty easily at 6 a.m. at Pebble when it was pretty cold. If I had to describe her game, it would be more a Jin Young (Ko). You know it's going to be about precision."
