Victor Wembanyama throws out first pitch at Yankee Stadium and shows why basketball is his sport

Victor Wembanyama has arrived. The presumptive #1 overall pick in Thursday's NBA Draft touched down in New Yorkon Monday and is already ingratiating himself to the American public, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at a New York Yankees game on Tuesday.

While throwing out a first pitch at Yankee Stadium is a major accomplishment for anybody, Wembanyama might want to forget about the ball he tossed -- it landed just a little outside the strike zone!

Wemby throws wide of the mark

San Antonio Spurs fans will hope Wembanyama shoots, passes, and rebounds better than he throws a baseball. The 7'4'' phenom's offering at Yankee Stadium...wasn't even close.

To his credit, Wemby did throw off the regulation pitcher's mound -- something many first-pitch tossers don't do. And the 19-year-old is grounded enough and mature enough to laugh off the attempt -- just as Yankees broadcasters did on Tuesday.

One philosophical prospect

Wembanyama has also made himself available to the media since his arrival in the United States, having already had a discussion with former NBA player JJ Redick for the ESPN analyst's podcast.

The teenager showed a wisdom beyond his years in a clip published to social media on Monday, which should give Spurs fans and NBA fanatics even more optimism that something like an errant throw from an MLB mound won't set him back.
