Jack Jones called Ja Morant 'dumb' but the Patriots player's own gun-related arrest sees him labelled a hypocrite

There have been multiple incidents in the USA of late involving highly-paid, professional athletes and their firearms.

Ja Morant had the world at his feet, as he is a premier NBA talent playing with the Memphis Grizzlies and is destined to earn multiple max-value contracts, yet he is at risk of throwing his career away through his controversies involving firearms, showing them off in Instagram videos.

Kwame Brown calls Ja Morant the "dumbest motherf***er" in the NBATwitter

Morant's behavior has earned him a 25-game ban at the start of the 2023/24 NBA season, while he has also been widely criticized.

These sentiments, however, have not been limited to pundits, with his fellow athletes even joining in on the subject. One such individual was New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones.

"Ja Morant, dumb... you letting social media and yo pride ruin yo real money," Jones tweeted back in May.

"Put them guns down and run that money up.

"Make one of yo homies sign up for security or concealed carry if you feel like you need it that bad, but you the bread winner and you gotta start acting like it."

Jack Jones is called a hypocrite after his own arrest

This seemed perfectly reasonable and level-headed advice from a fellow sportsman who knows the financial risk that players take with off-field misbehavior.

However, the speech lost all meaning when Jones himself was arrested on Friday for attempting to bring two loaded guns onto a plane via his carry-on luggage at Boston's Logan Airport.

Jones didn't follow his own advice and his bail was set at 50,000 dollars, while he will be arraigned in East Boston in a week.

After a standout rookie year with the Patriots, there are real concerns that this could cost him a promising career, although Bill Belichick has been known for his ability to rehabilitate wayward talents, aside from some more extreme circumstances.
