Canelo preparing to fight John Ryder but is focused on Dmitry Bivol rematch
Canelo Alvarez will soon be in the ring against John Ryder but despite that, he still seems to be entirely focused on his potential rematch with Dmitry Bivol instead.
Alvarez will be up against Ryder on Saturday, May 6 at the Estadio Akron in Zapopan. He needs to win that fight to begin rebuilding both his confidence and his reputation after the loss last year to Bivol.
Even though the Ryder fight is extremely important, his mind is still focused on getting revenge over Bivol.
Canelo sets conditions for a rematch with Bivol
"No, it's not a fact yet, but my mentality is on that and we'll see after this fight, everything depends on this one, we'll sit down and talk about that fight, but that's the one I want for September," he said in Mexico.
"I want to fight at 175 pounds, the same terms as the last fight, we haven't sat down to talk yet, that's my idea."
Canelo confessed that Bivol is a complicated boxer but not impossible to beat, but he also defended himself by saying that he is in a superior category to him, but he can come out with a victory in a rematch against the Russian.
"Dangerous no, he's a good fighter, he's a weight above me, it's always going to be a little more complicated, but I can handle that and more. It is to be available to train one hundred per cent, with my hands well, without injuries, because the first part I won it without problems, but the exhaustion came, because I also had a rib injury," said the Mexican.
Even though he lost to Bivol, that's not important for Canelo, as he reaffirmed himself as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, even though he moves up and down the ranks.
"I feel like the best in the world, I'm the only one who has gone up and faced the best, going up and down in weight is not easy, I deserve that place. Marquez always talks about me, he always talks bad about me for some reason, his criticism doesn't cause me anything at the end of the day. It doesn't make me stronger either, I was born stronger and I always feel that way because of what I have around me," confessed Alvarez.
