Caitlin Clark inspires Timberwolves during 'boring' Game 4 win vs. Nuggets
Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark attended the Minnesota Timberwolves' Game 4 victory in overtime over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night at Target Center.
Clark, 21, received a louder ovation than the Timberwolves players did, which may have inspired the home side to win its first game of the first-round series.
Minnesota is the closest state to Iowa with an NBA team, hence Clark's support. Timberwolves avoided a sweep in the presence of the Big Ten and National Player of the Year.
Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards scored a team-high 34 points to stick by his word that he would not allow his side to get swept for the first time in its history.
Nuggets would have also swept a team for the first time in franchise history and nearly did so by closing regulation on a 12-0 scoring run to force OT.
Nikola Jokic goes off for 43 points
Nikola Jokic went off for a game-high 43 points, sinking five of eight attempts from deep.
In overtime, Minnesota gave up 18 points, largely due to the incredibly clutch gameplay of Nickeil Alexander-Walker down the final stretch of the contest.
Mike Conley Jr. (19), Karl-Anthony Towns (17), Rudy Gobert (14) and Kyle Anderson (11) each contributed to the victory with double-figures in scoring.
For the Nuggets, Jamal Murray (19), Michael Porter Jr. (15), Aaron Gordon (14) and Bruce Brown Jr. (11) finished with double-digit scoring, but it was not enough.
Charles Barkley calls Nuggets-Timberwolves 'boring'
Denver's slow start to the contest drew the criticism of Charles Barkley during the NBA on TNT Halftime Show.
Barkley, 60, joked that he was watching the 2023 NHL Playoffs on rival station TBS due to the first half being so dull.
The Western Conference showdown gave Barkley what he asked for when it became the first game of the 2023 NBA Playoffs to each OT.
Game 5 is scheduled for Tuesday at Ball Arena in Denver and the most-likely scenario is a gentleman's sweep by the Nuggets.
