'Travis Scott, this is my sh*t': Dennis Rodman claims rapper ripped off his shoe design
"This ain't new, brother", NBA legend Dennis Rodman told Travis Scott in a video filmed at Chicago's Got Sole sneaker convention. The Hall of Famer asked the rapper for credit in the design behind the rapper's collaboration with Nike.
In a room filled with sneakerheads at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rodman clutched a pair of Air Jordan 1 High OG TS SP Travis Scott and claimed the rapper stole his shoe design.
The former Bulls and Pistons great pointed to the trademark swoosh on the sneaker and said: "I was the first guy to do mine backwards". The remarks were made in reference the 1994 Air Darwins, the first Nike shoe to feature the backwards swoosh.
"I was playing with the Chicago Bulls (at the time). Come on, Travis, give me some credit. You know? You copied my sh*t. This is my sh*t", the retired NBA star said into the camera. "This ain't new, brother", he said, before congratulating the rapper in a sarcastic way.
Dennis Rodman was one of two star guests at Got Sole on March 11th, including Chicago-native rapper Famous Dex. The Bulls legend took selfies and signed sneakers for hundreds of fans.
Travis Scott's sneaker line: one of Air Jordan & Nike's most coveted
The 1 High OG TS Mocha, that Rodman pointed to, is one of several models from Travis Scott's collaboration with Nike. They retail anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 on online retailers. A common trend for the hit collab.
While Nike launched the shoe with a retail price of $175, it sold out at lightning speed. The limited release caused prices to soar for resellers, as tends to happen.
In its item description, Nike describes the Travis Scott Air Jordans as a shoe "celebrating the hip-hop artist, record label founder and Houston, Texas native. Details on the shoe, including a reverse Swoosh and hidden pouch, help set this edition of the storied sneaker apart for the rapper and producer, and for Cactus Jack Records".
