Salah sends Liverpool to dominant win over Everton
Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo bagged one each to lead Liverpool to a 2-0 victory in the Merseyside derby against Everton in the Premier League at Anfield on Monday night.
Liverpool were superior in the first half, but they struggled to break down a compact Everton defence.
Gakpo headed the ball just wide 18 minutes into the first half in what was the hosts' first clear chance before the break.
Everton mainly tried to threaten from dead balls and they came close to taking the lead in the 36th minute, when James Tarkowski's header crashed against woodwork after a corner kick.
Visiting fans at the Anfield stands still couldn't believe that their team missed such a huge chance to break the deadlock, when Liverpool hit on the counter, with Darwin Nunez setting up Salah, who netted the opener.
The Uruguay international had an effort blocked before the break, but Liverpool doubled their lead four minutes into the second half through Gakpo, who scored his first goal for the Reds after joining the club in January.
Following their win, Liverpool moved to ninth in the Premier League table, but they are still nine points off the Champions League spots. As for Everton, they remain in relegation zone with 18 points from 22 games.
