Mbappe fails to inspire comeback as Bayern Munich leave PSG on the brink

Kingsley Coman
netted just after the break to lead
Bayern Munich to a 1-0 victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie at Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

The visitors were dominant in the first half, when they had most of the ball but struggled to turn their superiority into goals.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting headed wide on the half an hour mark, while Coman didn't manage to hit the target four minutes later.

PSG's first goal attempt came one minute into the first half's stoppage time, when the hosts earned a free-kick just outside the box. Unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi stepped up but his strike was blocked by the wall.

Bayern Munich hit the ground running in the second half and managed to break the deadlock just eight minutes in through Coman, who didn't celebrate the goal against his former team.

Choupo-Moting came close to double the Bavarians' lead in the 63rd minute, when Jamal Musiala found his teammate in the PSG box, but the Bayern Munich striker's effort hit the woodwork after being deflected by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Italian goalkeeper pulled off a second big save just a few seconds later to deny Benjamin Pavard following a corner kick.

PSG improved after Kylian Mbappe came off the bench, but their star was denied by Yann Sommer. Then, the Frenchman netted an equalizer after a Nuno Mendes solo move, but his goal was disallowed for offside. Messi had a chance to level the score with five minutes to go, but his effort was blocked by Bayern Munich's defence.

Pavard received a second yellow card after a rough challenge on Messi in the second half's added time, but it was already late for PSG, who lost on home soil.
