Eddie Hearn: Canelo vs Beterbiev would be a bloodbath
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez already tried to fight at 175 pounds and even became world champion, but promoter Eddie Hearn now wants to see a fight between the undisputed super middleweight champion and the three-agency light heavyweight champion, Artur Beterbiev.
Back on November 2, 2019, Canelo moved up to 175 pounds to face Sergey Kovalev and managed to dethrone him.
Last May he tried to do the same again, but was stopped by Dmitry Bivol, who defeated him by unanimous decision.
Although Canelo want to pursue a rematch with Bivol, Hearn is looking forward to a different fight.
"Canelo vs Beterbiev is a helluva fight," Hearn told BoxingScene.com.
"That's a bloodbath."
Who is Artur Beterbiev?
On January 28, Beterbiev defended his WBC, WBO and IBF semi-complete weight titles after defeating Anthony Yarde in eight rounds.
His rival put up a fight in the first rounds, but was defeated by Beterbiev, who has knocked out all the 19 opponents he has faced.
Meanwhile, Canelo lost in May to Bivol and got back to winning ways in September against Gennady Golovkin.
However, he left the fight with a sore left wrist, for which he has already undergone surgery and is expected to return to the ring soon.
Canelo wants a successful 2023 and may return in May
Although Canelo wants a rematch with Bivol, possibly in September, his return to action could take place in May against John Ryder.
"Right now, Canelo is thinking about coming back against his mandatory," Hearn added.
"And then he wants to challenge himself in September against Dmitry Bivol."
