All-Star Weekend: Lead by Walker Kessler, Team Jazz wins at home the 2023 Skills Challenge
The NBAAll-Star weekend started Saturday's activities with the Skills Challenge, sponsored by an automotive brand and had as competitors three teams that gave everything to show the best of their skills on the court: Team Antetokounmpo, Team Jazz and Team Rookies.
The first one was formed by Giannis Antetokounmpo, but since he was injured, his place was taken by Jrue Holiday; as well as by Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Alex Antetokounmpo.
The Jazz team was led by Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton and Walker Kessler, while the Rookies team was formed by Paolo Banchero (Orlando Magic), Jabari Smith Jr (Houston Rockets) and Jaden Ivey (Detroit Pistons).
The Rookies started off winning, but experience won out
The Skills Challenge consisted of three events, the first one being the relay, which was won with the best skill and speed by the Rookies, who scored 100 points
The second part consisted of the passing challenge, where the Antetokounmpo team scored 84 points, so the winners of the first part had to beat that mark. In the end they scored 78 points, so it was up to Team Jazz to see if they could get into the fight.
Fueled by their three members, the Utah Jazz scored a total of 88 points, tying Team Rookies by also scoring 100 points.
Team Antetokounmpo had to win the third part, the team shootout, in order to have a three-way tie. Failure to do so would leave the Skills Challenge in the hands of either of the other two teams.
Antetokounmpo's team scored 8 points in the team shooting portion, while the rookies only managed 3 points. So it was all up to Team Jazz to take the win or not.
And they got it in a clear way, scoring together 13 points, receiving 100 points and being the absolute winners of the Kia Skill Challenge 2023.
