Patrick Mahomes will play in the AFC Championship Game next Sunday
The Kansas City Chiefs can breathe easy, Patrick Mahomes will have no problem playing in the American Conference Championship Game next Sunday, Jan. 29.
Mahomes left in the first quarter of the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a bruised ankle. The quarterback left the field, sat out the second quarter, but returned to play the second half.
While playing, Mahomes did not look good, was hobbling and set off alarm bells in Kansas. After the game early reports were that X-rays showed it was just a sprain, but the recovery time was not yet known.
Mahomes will be in the AFC championship game.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that sources close to the Kansas City Chiefs told him that Patrick Mahomes' injury is nothing more than a sprain, confirming that the quarterback wants to play in the American Conference championship game no matter what.
The reporter added that, although it is only a sprain, it is serious enough for Mahomes to not be at 100 percent.
Patrick Mahomes reveals Chiefs ultimatum
During his postgame press conference, Mahomes revealed that the Kansas City coaching staff gave him an ultimatum to return to the field.
"I did not want to go," Mahomes said. "They kind of gave me the ultimatum of I was not going back in the game unless I went in the locker room-it's going to take a lot to keep me out of a football game."
