Jon Jones vs. Cyril Gane not a done deal, T-Mobile Arena banner was a 'mistake'
Jon Jones vs. Cyril Gane is not a done deal despite T-Mobile Arena displaying a graphic to promote the heavyweight title fight on Saturday, according to Steven Marrocco of MMA Fighting.
The banner has reportedly been taken down and was chalked up to a "behind-the-scenes mistake."
Jones, 35, hasn't fought since February 2020, a win over Dominick Reyes that went the distance.
Gane, 32, recently challenged Jones to a bout at UFC 285 on March 4 in Las Vegas.
While nothing is official as of this publication, the banner plastered outside of T-Mobile Arena suggests it's only a matter of time until UFC announces the contest.
Francis Ngannou done with UFC?
Fans also noticed that the banner was promoting a world heavyweight championship match with no mention of an interim title.
Current UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has been out with a knee injury since defeating Gane at UFC 270.
Ngannou, 36, has been in contract talks with Dana White and the UFC for the past year, but no side has been willing to budge, leading to speculation that "The Predator" is done with the company.
After one of Ngannou's family members was spotted with a Professional Fighters League (PFL) shirt, speculation of the heavyweight joining Jake Paul in his new business venture quickly grew.
