Brock Purdy is more Patrick Mahomes than he is Tom Brady, proven by this play
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been drawing comparisons to Tom Brady through his six-game undefeated streak as a starter in the NFL, but a play in his side's win over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday proves that he's actually more similar to Patrick Mahomes.
Purdy, 23, threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns on 60% completed passes, and should have had one more score down the final stretch of the fourth quarter.
On 3rd & 10, in the red zone and with the Niners leading 38-17 late in the game, Purdy could have just thrown the ball away when multiple defenders rushed him.
Instead, he went on to shake a couple players before juking one last defender and throwing a rainbow pass into the end zone.
Niners wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk later apologized to Purdy for not making the touchdown catch, but the incomplete pass came on a play reminiscent of Mahomes.
Brock Purdy, the magician
Mahomes, 27, is not known as a great rushing QB. He can, however, hurt teams on the ground, and the entire league knows that fact.
Brady, 45, has never been a rushing threat, so it doesn't make sense to compare Purdy to an old-school QB.
Purdy is a magician that never gives up on a play. On Saturday, he rushed for a touchdown on a QB sneak to go with his three TD passes.
His dominant performance even drew the attention of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.
