Asensio and Ceballos knock on Florentino's door to renew at Real Madrid
Marco Asensio and Dani Ceballos were the players who inspired Real Madrid to their 3-2 comeback victory over Villarreal in the Copa del Rey on Thursday.
However, in less that six months they may cease being Real Madrid footballers, as their contracts expire at the end of the season and they have yet to reach an extension agreement with the club.
"Things are being discussed, we'll see where it goes," Asensio said after the match.
"I'm focused on my own and on the next game. Hopefully everything will come to fruition. I want to renew and stay at Madrid for a long time, but it's not something that depends only on me. For me the most important thing is the sporting aspect and to be happy."
Real Madrid went two goals down in the first half and Carlo Ancelotti decided to make a double change 10 minutes into the second half.
He brought on Ceballos for Toni Kroos and Asensio for Rodrygo Goes and suddenly Real Madrid looked as though they were a completely new team.
Ceballos had been on the pitch for just a minute when he came up with a great through ball to set up Vinicius Junior for Real Madrid's first goal.
A bit more than 10 minutes later, Ceballos participated in the build-up for Eder Militao equaliser.
Triumphant combination
Within 20 minutes, the plan was coming together for Ancelotti, as Asensio was lively in the final third and teed up Ceballos for Los Blancos' third.
Now it's time for Ancelotti and president Florentino Perez to make a move. Asensio is crying out for a starting place and Ceballos desperately wants to renew his contract.
They may not be undisputed starters, but they are fundamental players who can create competition within the team and help them win titles.
