Ravens fleece Bears in trade for linebacker Roquan Smith, the new Ray Lewis
The Baltimore Ravens sent veteran linebacker AJ Klein, plus a second and fifth-round pick, to the Chicago Bears on Monday in exchange for LB Roquan Smith, who could become the new Ray Lewis.
Smith, 25, was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, and is only becoming better with age.
He will likely be a cornerstone piece in the Baltimore defense, which is already among the league's best.
Though it's nearly impossible for any linebacker to achieve what Lewis did for the Ravens, Smith has a high ceiling due to his youth.
Smith also has a chip on his shoulder after the new Bears brass did not believe in him enough to offer him the contract he wanted, leading to the young LB asking for a trade in August.
Bears will regret trading Roquan Smith
Bears quarterback Justin Fields is also on the hot seat with the new franchise owners, who are seemingly starting to rebuild.
Fields, like Smith, were not their draft selections, so there's no loyalty when it comes to their contracts.
Smith, however, will enter a Baltimore defense known for its firepower, so he'll not only add to the arsenal, but will also get better through the next couple seasons.
Ravens visit the New Orleans Saints for Monday Night Football next week, which could very well be Smith's first game with his new team.
