Messi to miss PSG's Champions League game against Benfica
Lionel Messi was absent from the final training session ahead of Paris Saint-Germain's Tuesday game against Benfica and he'll have to sit that one out.
The French champions will be looking to gain some control in their Champions League group by beating Benfica as they are currently level with them on seven points.
According to Le Parisien, the Argentine player will miss the match against Benfica because he suffered a soleus contracture in the last Champions League match, in which he asked to be substituted.
Despite the "reassuring tests" carried out by the club's medical team, the striker underwent treatment all weekend.
Neither Messi nor PSG want to take any risks
The Parisian club do not want to take any risks. In addition, this weekend PSG will play their main derby against Marseille.
Plus, in six weeks the World Cup begins and this is Messi's main objective for 2022.
So far, it had been the Argentine's best season at PSG. To his five goals and seven assists in Ligue 1, he has added two more goals and an assist in the Champions League.
