"S*it show backstage" Dana White cancels UFC press conference for first time ever

Dramatic scenes took place in Las Vegas, where Dana White saw himself cancelling a press conference for the first time and to the sound of hundreds of UFC fans' boos. And even Nate Diaz was involved. The UFC 279 pre-fight press conference was canceled mid-session Tuesday because of what company president Dana White called a "big sh*t show."

"This ain't going to happen," White said to an angry crowd. "I apologize, everybody. I am in very weird waters here. This has never happened in the history of this company. Trust me when I tell you this is the right decision not to do this press conference right now. For everybody's safety, this is the right decision. I apologize. Thanks for coming", White concluded.

Despite everything, "the show will go on this weekend", White assured.

So what happened? Kevin Holland and Khamzat Chimaev

Dana White confirmed that Kevin Holland and Khamzat Chimaev were the catalyst of the chaos backstage. The strange part is that both fighters are not even facing off this weekend. Kevin Holland will face Daniel Rodriguez, and won't be in the main event. Whereas Swedish and Chechnyan Chimaev will be heading one of the most anticipated fights of the night versus UFC legend Nate Diaz.

According to Kevin Holland, he "offered that clown (Chimaev) a beard trim". Was this what started it all? We can't be sure.

Meanwhile, Chimaev took to his stories to offer a different version of the events, also clapping back at Nate Diaz: "I told them not to play with us. Kevin (Holland) and Nate (Diaz) got what they deserved".

Dana White explained the unprecedented cancellation

Dana White spoke to the press about what exactly unfolded: "There were multiple things going on at the same time. It wasn't just one thing that erupted and it happened. So there was security over there, there was no security over there. There was no security over there cause everybody was dealing with the other thing and once it all started erupting, it was just a s*** show."

White gave a shout out to former UFC fighter turned athlete manager Tiki Ghosn, who was apparently instrumental in making sure things didn't escalate further: "If it wasn't for Tiki, we would have been in trouble. Tiki took a couple for the team and he's not even on the team. Tiki took a couple of water bottles to the head, a couple slaps, kicks. Thanks Tiki."
