Mayweather confirms 2023 rematch with McGregor, details revealed

It may not have been a spectacle that boxing purists would have enjoyed, yet few can discount the business success that the first fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor had.

With both fighters at somewhat of an impasse at this stage, there have been rumours suggesting that the duo will lock horns again inside the boxing ring.

Yet, on Wednesday morning it was confirmed by Mayweather himself that these rumours were indeed true and that final negotiations are underway to secure a money-spinning rematch between the two combat sport icons.

"I want to go out there this weekend and have fun," Mayweather told The Daily Mail ahead of his exhibition with Mikuru Asakura.

"Then I have another exhibition in Dubai in November and then me and Conor McGregor in 2023.

"We don't know if it's going to be an exhibition or a real fight, but there's been talks of both, I would prefer an exhibition."

Whilst Mayweather has been exceedingly respectful of the Irish UFC star in the months after their bout, he did take this opportunity to lay a subtle insult at McGregor's door.

"I'm not into fights where I am going to take any real punishment," he admitted.

"So, guys like Conor McGregor and guys that don't really hit hard such as YouTubers or UFC guys, I don't really mind colliding with those kinds of individuals.

"But nothing where I am going to put myself in a position where I am going to harm myself or hurt myself."
