LAFC snap three-game skid with convincing victory over Real Salt Lake
Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) snapped a three-game skid Sunday night with a 2-0 home victory over Real Salt Lake (RSL) at Banc of California Stadium.
LAFC started the match without Carlos Vela or Gareth Bale, and after a scoreless first half, Ryan Hollingshead managed to open the score four minutes into the second.
Cristian Arango scored his 14th goal of the season to put LAFC up by two goals in the 68th minute.
Sebas Mendez came off the bench about 15 minutes later and forced a penalty when RSL goalkeeper Zac MacMath fouled him inside the box.
Vela, who came off the bench for Kwadwo Opoku in minute 58, got his penalty shot blocked by MacMath.
Still, LAFC managed to earn three points ahead of next week's clash against FC Dallas.
LAFC gain momentum ahead of MLS Playoffs
With Vela on the bench, LAFC don't play as confident or aggressive as when he's on the field.
Bale, on the other hand, has been a shadow of himself since he took a couple of games off to rest.
LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo was lucky to have cut the losing streak at three, otherwise it would have been four straight defeats after eight consecutive wins.
Cherundolo must lead LAFC to an MLS Cup berth or else his job may be in trouble this offseson.
It's championship or bust for LAFC, who get right back on track with a handful of games left in the regular season and gain some momentum ahead of the MLS Playoffs.
