Golovkin turns up the heat ahead of Canelo fight: Lots of Mexicans love me
The fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is less than a month away and the latter has been turning up the heat by suggesting he has more fans in Mexico.
It is expected to be the fight of the year and both boxers have already got things going with their comments. It has been a back and forth of statements, with 'GGG' the author of the latest 'controversy'.
The Kazakh fighter spoke about the Mexican people's affection for him, which is sure to have gone down a treat with his Mexican opponent.
GGG's legacy in the ring
Golovkin spoke to journalist Ernest Amador about what he has done in the ring during his career.
"I know about my legacy and what I leave behind in boxing will remain written for future generations, but without a doubt when the time comes I will surely enjoy talking to my grandchildren, if I have them, about what I did and left as a legacy in the ring," said Golovkin.
Such is his impact on boxing, he even dared to talk about the affection Mexicans have for him.
"Many Mexicans love me and nobody in Kazakhstan loves Canelo," said Golovkin.
Sparks will fly on September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The trilogy where the IBF, WBC, WBO and WBA super middleweight belts will be at stake.
The first fight ended in a draw, while the second went in favour of the Jalisco native, although for many, the scorecards should have gone Golovkin's way. So the 40-year-old fighter will be looking for his first win over Canelo to cap a legendary career.
