Ancelotti: Even if Asensio leaves, Real Madrid won't sign anyone
Marco Asensio's future remains uncertain and Carlo Ancelotti stressed that Real Madrid have no intention to sign a replacement in the event the Spanish forward departs.
With his contract running until the end of this season, Asensio is currently considering trying his luck elsewhere as he is not considered an undisputed starter by the Italian coach.
"I don't know anything new about Asensio, only that he is assessing his situation," Ancelotti said on Saturday, ahead of Real Madrid's trip to face Espanyol.
"On September 2 everything will be clarified and if he stays then he will be an important player and I will be delighted because last year he contributed a lot to the team and this season he would do the same.
"We have a squad in which we have a lot of resources. If Marco leaves, we won't sign anyone because we don't need to."
Meanwhile, Ancelotti made clear that Rodrygo will get more opportunities this season after netting some important goals in the Champions League last year.
"He is going to have a more important role because last year he made the difference in decisive games and he will start more often," Ancelotti added.
"He will play on the right wing and he can replace Vinicius on the left, and he can even play in Karim [Benzema]'s place. He is very complete and it will be a very important year for him."
Ten years after Luka Modric's arrival at Los Blancos, Ancelotti does not expect the Croatia international will not retire at the end of this season.
"It was a good signing for Real Madrid and for him," Ancelotti noted.
"His career has been very consistent and he has always played very well, at a very high level.
"He can go on for more because I see him fresh and very motivated. I think he will continue for another season."
