UFC: Yair Rodriguez wins after Brian Ortega dislocated shoulder
Yair "Pantera" Rodriguez (14-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) defeated Brian Ortega (15-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) in one round at UFC Fight Night in Long Island, New York.
The fight lasted just 4:11 seconds. Rodriguez defeated Ortega in good fashion, but it wasn't the fight they or the fans were expecting.
Although the bout started with good action, the gladiators were still not settling well in the ring when the fight ended.
The bell rang and the exchange of punches began, Yair connected better, but Ortega hit harder, the "Pantera" already had a cut on his right cheekbone. Rodriguez took Ortega to the ground and tried to hit him with an armbar, when Brian tried to escape his shoulder popped out, he immediately stayed on the canvas and the pain was reflected on his face.
The referee ended the fight and officially Yair Rodriguez won by technical knockout in the first round.
Reactions from Rodriguez and Ortega.
"I'm so sorry," Ortega said as he apologized to the crowd in attendance. "I don't know how this happened. I wanted to move on and I got this. I already have two shoulder surgeries. I may need a third, who knows.
"We got caught in a situation and his body was tight and I don't know, he just pulled, he wasn't in any danger of presentation. I tried to clear my leg and my arm came off. Yair, congratulations, if you don't get the title fight, or whatever, let's make this right. I want both of us to leave it all here. Because I know that's what we came here to do."
"Of course I want to fight for the title," Rodriguez said. "If I said differently before that I had no respect for the current champion [Alexander Volkanovski], it's because I didn't know any better. Now I know now that he's a fuc...? beast. All my respect for you. I hope you get better so we can do this sh...."
