Gamrot wins via close decision, Rakhmonov submits Magny
Mateusz Gamrot (20-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) defeated Arman Tsarukyan (18-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) by a close unanimous decision in the UFC Fight Night headlining bout in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The contest was close and with many exchanges of punches, there were quite close rounds that put the judges to work to see who was the winner. In the end, all three scorecards read 48-47, all for Gamrot.
The contest began with the two gladiators in the center of the octagon in an exchange of kicks, Tsarukyan was the first to try a takedown, but failed, it was then that the Pole took the opportunity to connect a kick.
Tsarukyan was going forward, his favorite punch was kicks, while Gamrot preferred boxing, that made the shrapnel exchanges spectacular.
In the following rounds there was not only striking, but also knockdowns, who got the better part was the Pole who managed to throw his opponent to the ground five times. Tsarukyan's corner asked him to avoid the fight, but he didn't do much and that's where the victory went to him.
In the co-main event of the night, Rakhmonov submitted Magny
In a great show of strength and technique, Kazakhstan's Shavkat Rakhmonov remained undefeated in MMA (15-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) by defeating American Neil Magny (26-8 MMA, 19-7 UFC) via guillotine choke in two rounds in the welterweight division.
Rakhmonov didn't give Magny much time to settle into the octagon, 30 seconds in when the Kazakh had his foe on his back. On the ground Rakhmonov punished him with ground and pound, but Magny managed to get up quickly. The Kazakh adapted to the standing fight and landed several punches to the body.
In the second episode things did not change: Rakhmonov started with a powerful kick, then put Magny against the fence, made several attempts to take him down until he finally succeeded. The Kazakh's work on the ground was great, he smelled the victory, but there were seconds left for the round to end. It was then that he took advantage of a carelessness of his rival and managed to apply a guillotine choke when there were two seconds left for the bell to ring.
