NBA Playoffs: Bucks crumble in Game 7 at TD Garden, Celtics advance to ECF
The Boston Celtics blew out the Milwaaukee Bucks in Game 7 on Sunday at TD Garden to reach the Eastern Conference Finals on the back of a game-high 27 points from Grant Williams.
Williams scored seven 3-pointers on 18 shots from beyond the arc, breaking the Game 7 record for most attempts from deep, which was previously 15 by Stephen Curry. This was the first time in Williams' career in which he led his side in scoring.
As a team, Boston went 22-for-55 from the perimeter, and Milwaukee only hit four of its 33 attempts from the three-point line. They also managed to get the win despite getting outscored by 22 points in the paint and by nine in transition.
The Bucks led after one quarter and had a 10-point lead early on before getting held to 17 points in the second frame. At the half, Bucks trailed by five points and got off to a great start in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors by 10 to enter the fourth up by 15.
Giannis Antetokounmpo struggles down the stretch
In the final stanza, Milwaukee once again scored just 17 points, with Giannis Antetokounmpo struggling to finish at the rim. Antetokounmpo ended the game with a team-high 25 points, 20 rebounds and nine assists, shooting 10-for-26 from the field.
Jrue Holiday shot 9-for-21 from the floor and 0-for-6 from deep for 21 points, Brook Lopez added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Bobby Portis got 10 points off the bench. Wesley Matthews, Grayson Allen and Pat Connaughton combined for just six points on 2-for-17 shooting.
Jayson Tatum contributed to the victory with 23 points, Jaylen Brown put up 19, Payton Pritchard got 14 points in 17 minutes off the bench and Marcus Smart finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists. Al Horford only scored six points but led his side in rebounding with 10.
Boston (No. 2 seed) will now take on the Miami Heat(No. 1 seed) in the Eastern Conference Finals. Game 1 is scheduled to tip off Tuesday, May 17 at 5:30 p.m. PT at FTX Arena.
