Joel Embiid's envy: The 76ers player's enormous frustration at not winning MVP
It has not yet been officially announced who will be the NBA regular season's Most Valuable Player, however, according to a report by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, this distinction will go for the second consecutive year to Denver Nuggets' Serbian center Nikola Jokic, however, that report has not gone down well for his Philadelphia 76ers colleague, Cameroon's Joel Embiid.
For the second year in a row, Embiid has been very close to the first MVP of his career and despite being the leading scorer in the NBA, this time, according to reports, he would have taken second place, in a trio where in addition to Jokic, there is the Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Joel Embiid's impotence
"Last year I campaigned about it. This year I answered questions when asked, and the next few years until I retire, it's almost like ... I don't know. Like I said, I don't know what else I have to do to win it," Embiid said. "To me, at this point it's whatever. It's all about focusing-not that I wasn't focused on the bigger picture-but it's really trying to put all my energy into the bigger picture, which is to win the whole thing."
I don't know what the criteria for the MVP is no more but I do know the STORY should matter and nobody had a better STORY than Embiid had this season!!! Carry the hell on... #Swagu&Perk pic.twitter.com/SbN7wNKz81

Embiid this year became the first center to average more than 30 points per game since Shaquille O'Neal did it with the Los Angeles Lakers in the distant year of 2000, that wasn't enough for MVP and while he was noticeably upset, the 76ers player didn't fail to acknowledge Jokic's work.
Joel Embiid congratulates Nikola Jokic
"Obviously, congrats to Nikola. He deserved it. He had an amazing season. There's no right or wrong. There was a lot of candidates. It could have gone either way," Embiid said. "Giannis (Antetokounmpo), Devin Booker, being on the best team in the league, by far. So, I guess, every year is all about whatever you guys decide, whatever fits the narrative as far as who's gonna win."
For now, Embiid must focus on Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal series, in which the 76ers face elimination next Thursday when they host the Miami Heat, who hold a 3-2 lead.
