Rob Pelinka reportedly lied about discussing potential trades with LeBron James, Anthony Davis
Following the 2022 NBA Trade Deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers' general manager, Rob Pelinka, explained that he spoke with LeBron James and Anthony Davis on potential trades that did not come to fruition.
ESPN's Dave McMenamin is reporting that sources close to James and Davis told him Pelinka never held a discussion with his two superstars about not making any moves during the trade deadline. The lack of trades came down to Pelinka not wanting to give up draft capital, something he said James and Davis were on board with, but that notion now being challenged.
LeBron James wants to win now
King James, 37, has one more year left in his contract with the Purple & Gold, and is reportedly open to leaving Los Angeles to play with his son, Bronny. James would have no reason to want to protect a future draft pick if a current trade gives him a better chance of winning an NBA championship.
Lakers (26-30) are four games under .500 for the first time this season and currently hold the ninth spot in the Western Conference. They visit the Golden State Warriors (41-15) on Saturday.
