NBA Trade Deadline: Mavericks move on from Kristaps Porzingis, send him to Wizards
Hours before the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET, multiple NBA insiders like Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania reported the Dallas Mavericks are moving on from Kristaps Porzingis, sending him to the Washington Wizards.
The move includes KP and a future second-round pick going to Washington for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans. Porzingis, 26, will take on the center role for Wizards as big man Montrezl Harrell leaves the capital city to join the Charlotte Hornets.
Third team for KP6
Drafted fourth overall by the New York Knicks in 2015, the 7-foot-3 Latvian hooper became an All-Star in 2018, one year before joining Luka Doncic in Dallas. His stint with billionaire Marc Cuban's team never came to fruition as expected, getting marred by injury and early playoff exits.
Porzingis has been sidelined the last five games for Dallas with a right knee injury and has missed 21 of 55 games this season due to various injuries and testing positive for COVID-19. KP averaged 20 points and 8.8 rebounds in 134 games for the Mavs.
