Xavi's role in Barcelona's recruitment process
Xavi Hernandez has returned to Barcelona to try and drag the club out of the dismal situation it found itself in. The midfield legend has already overseen big changes at the Catalan side, implementing his own methods and ideas on how the first team should work, while has also been heavily involved in the signing process.
Xavi has been given the power to look for the exact kind of player he wants in his side, ones that slot in to the Barcelona model of playing.
He doesn't just want talented players, as he wants loyal ones and has spoken to new signings in depth before any deal was struck.
There is an agreement in place with Barcelona general director Mateu Alemany that Xavi can take part in negotiations with transfer targets in order to use his powers of persuasion when trying to tempt players to the Camp Nou.
It's not an easy job that Xavi has in front of him, as persuading players to join Barcelona is far more difficult nowadays than it once was, but the words of someone of his stature carry weight and go a long way in attracting new faces.
Xavi is looking to build a team based on Spanish talent and this is evident with the targeting of Ferran Torres, Alvaro Morata and Cesar Azpilicueta, along with the trust being put in players from the club's academy.
Club president Joan Laporta is still looking for a way to bring Erling Haaland to the Catalan capital, which is proving almost impossible at the moment, but Xavi is focusing on more realistic targets for his rebuild.
