Kieran Trippier joins Newcastle United
Newcastle United confirmed the signing of Kieran Trippier on Friday morning, ending his two-and-a-half-year stay at Atletico Madrid.
Having replaced Juanfran at Atletico, his spell was a successful one, winning LaLiga Santander in 2021.
The move means that Trippier's wish to return to the Premier League has been fulfilled, having been keen to move back to England ever since Manchester United showed an interest in his services last summer.
The Red Devils didn't meet Atleti's 40 million euro asking price, reflecting his release clause, but not even Diego Simeone could convince Trippier to stay beyond this January transfer window.
First major signing for ambitious Newcastle
Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund acquired Newcastle United on October 7 for 320 million euros and outlined big ambitions for the club, with Trippier being the first signing as part of their strategy.
