Courtois determined to prove FIFA wrong after not making The Best nominations
FIFA will hand The Best Men's Goalkeeper award in a ceremony that will be held on January 17, but Thibaut Courtois is not even amongst the candidates for the prize.
Football's governing body has nominated Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer, Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma and Chelsea's Edouard Mendy as the three finalists for the individual accolade and Courtois is determined to prove them wrong with performances as the one he produced against Valencia.
Courtois played a vital role again in Real Madrid's efforts to secure another win, as he produced a couple of big saves to prevent Valencia from getting back into the game.
With the score at 3-0, the Belgium international pulled off a great save to deny Daniel Wass and also saved Goncalo Guedes' penalty despite the Portuguese heading home after pouncing on the rebound.
In fact, Courtois has saved 20 of Real Madrid opponents' last 23 shots on target. Of the last 18 shots on goal produced by visitors at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, the Belgian goalkeeper has allowed in just one.
"I'm not going to comment on why I'm not nominated for The Best," Courtois said back in November.
"I think it's for something that I mentioned a month ago, but that's it. The individual awards are not the most important thing."
