Real Madrid are a winning machine
Real Madrid are a winning machine. That was confirmed by their gritty win over Athletic Club on Wednesday night, where all three results could have been possible but only one wasn't in doubt.
It was Los Merengues' seventh straight win in all competitions and means they have now gone 33 days without even so much as a draw.
They kicked off this run with a 2-1 win over Elche on October 30. Since then, they have seen off Shakhtar Donetsk, Rayo Vallecano, Granada, Sheriff Tiraspol, Sevilla and Athletic.
In reality the run of good form goes back even further than that, with the 2-1 Clasico triumph over Barcelona putting them on a path of confidence and security. There was the goalless draw against Osasuna just three days after the visit to the Camp Nou, but that could probably be put down to a Clasico hangover.
Including those results, it makes it 44 almost perfect days with nine wins and one draw.
The impact on their season has been huge, with Los Blancos stretching out at the head of LaLiga Santander and topping their Champions League group with one match remaining.
In total, it's 15 wins, three draws and just two defeats in 20 games this term. Carlo Ancelotti would have taken that on his return to the Bernabeu dugout.
Perhaps the most impressive thing about Real Madrid's form is how consistent they have been in the last eight months.
During that time there have been just two lean spells, with the latest coming in September when they went three matches without a win.
They have triumphed in 70 percent of their games in that period, with only three defeats to Chelsea, Espanyol and Sheriff.
Looking just at LaLiga Santander, it's a mammoth 80 points from 99. This all points to silverware being a possibility in 2022.
