Gavi's historic first goal sees him overtake Messi
Barcelona weren't exactly at their vintage best on Saturday, but 17-year-old Gavi put on a show to be remembered as he scored the Catalans' second in their 3-2 win over Elche.
Picking up the ball in the final third, Gavi rode a challenge and escaped pressure with a gorgeous 180-degree turn. Then, as he approached the edge of the Elche area, he skipped past another after a feinting a shot before finally sending the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Surpassing Messi
The goal was Gavi's first for the club and allowed him to become Barcelona's third-youngest goalscorer of all time, beating even Lionel Messi.
Messi bagged his first at 17 years and 331 days old, whereas Gavi has now done so at 17 years and just 135 days old.
Both Ansu Fati (16 years and 304 days old) and Bojan (17 years and 53 days) sit above him in the charts of Barcelona's youngest-ever goalscorers.
