Dembele renewal talks hit buffers
Ousmane Dembele's proposed contract renewal with Barcelona has seen a setback.
The two parties met on Wednesday and had hoped to leave their meeting with an agreement, but that wasn't the case.
Barcelona nonetheless still hold out hope that a deal can be reached in the coming days, particularly given the terms of the renewal had seemed very close.
Dembele's contract is up next June, at which point he could leave Barcelona for free, and in January he will be free to talk to other clubs if nothing is agreed with the Catalans.
As such, securing the 24-year-old's future has taken up a lot of time and effort in the Blaugrana boardroom of late.
Coach Xavi Hernandez recently revealed that Dembele had told him of his wish to stay at the Camp Nou, but in the meeting - as revealed by Cadena COPE - there were understood to be tensions.
It remains to be seen if these financial differences can be ironed out.
Dembele interest
Dembele is understood to have received offers from Premier League and Ligue 1 clubs, and his advisors have let this be known during talks, as they look to get the best deal for their client.
For the moment, Dembele is isolating as a result of a positive COVID-19 test, the latest incident that - after a spate of injuries - has kept him from so far fulfilling his potential in Spain.
