COVID-19 outbreak at Real Madrid: Five more positive cases
One day after revealing that Marcelo and Luka Modric had tested positive for COVID-19, Real Madrid announced through their official website that Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale, Andriy Lunin and Rodrygo Goes have also contracted coronavirus.
All Real Madrid players and coaching staff underwent PCR testing after Modric and Marcelo returned positive results on Wednesday and the club informed on Thursday that another four players tested positive for COVID-19.
According to LaLiga protocols, Real Madrid could request the postponement of the match against Cadiz if they have fewer than 13 first-team players available, including at least one goalkeeper.
"As these are vaccinated citizens, Real Madrid footballers can play when they test negative without subsequent quarantine," Madrid Region Minister of Health Enrique Ruiz Escudero told Radio MARCA.
Real Madrid are hosting Cadiz on Sunday at 21:00 CET, in what is scheduled to be their penultimate game of this calendar year, with their last one being away at Athletic Club on December 22.
