Cavani chooses Barcelona

Edinson Cavani could well be the player to solve Barcelona's goalscoring issues, with the Uruguayan forward having elected to accept the offer from the Catalan club ahead of the January transfer window.

Sergio Aguero's retirement has freed up salary space and a space in the squad for a new signing, and with minutes on the pitch at Old Trafford hard to come by, Cavani is keen to leave in January.

Cavani wants to sign with the Blaugrana on January on a contract that will run until June 30, so it is hardly likely to be a long-term measure.

Manchester United wouldn't be unhappy to lose Cavani's salary off the books immediately, especially with him playing such little football, although the former Napoli goalscorer is an incredibly popular play amongst supporters.

He hasn't been on the pitch since the November 2 match with Atalanta in the Champions League, whilst his last goal came on October 30 in the victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Cavani also had an offer from Boca Juniors according to TyC Sports, but he has elected to turn that down in favour of Los Cules.

United will be able to move forward with one less attacking player, especially with Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo all present in the squad.
