Why USA team needs to follow Ted Lasso's advice after Mexico win
TheUnited States caused the Mexican National Team to collapse on the road to Qatar 2022.
With goals from Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie, the team led by coach Gregg Berhalter moved into first place in CONCACAF qualifying, with another 'Dos a Cero' that reignited the rivalry.
The celebrations that followed the victory over Mexico could be heard far beyond the locker room, echoing through the corridors of the TQL Stadium.
It was a signature win for the U.S. team, which will face Jamaica on Tuesday in CONCACAF qualifying.
The U.S. team will have to "be a goldfish," as Ted Lasso put it. And forget what just happened.
If the U.S. players spend too much time celebrating the victory over El Tri, they will squander the opportunity in front of them.
"This game's behind us now," said Christian Pulisic, who broke a scoreless tie with a header in the 74th, five minutes after he came into the game. "It's huge to help us get three points, and now we're first place in the group."
The top three CONCACAF teams advance to next year's World Cup in Qatar, while the fourth-place finisher goes to the playoffs.
A new Concacaf leader
The USMNT and Mexico have 14 points, while Costa Rica, Jamaica, and El Salvador have only six.
Honduras is near the bottom with three points.
However, the United States is only three points behind fourth-place Panama. That is the same lead Mexico lost in Friday night's match.
So the U.S. team can't afford to take anything for granted. The only thing that matters is reaching to Qatar 2022.
