Stars who could miss out on the World Cup
The World Cup is a spectacle for all to enjoy some of the best talents in the world, though many have their participating hanging by a thread as qualifying draws to a close.
World-famous names like David Alaba and Jan Oblak are among those who have already confirmed that they won't be featuring as their countries have missed out in qualification.
They could soon be joined by even more high-profile figures, like those in this list below.
Erling Haaland
Having been in pole position to qualify, a 0-0 draw at home to Latvia means that Haaland's Norway need to win or do better against The Netherlands on Tuesday than Turkey do as they play Montenegro with a narrow goal difference lead.
As one of the world's brightest young talents, he'll be hoping to feature, though he could still miss out entirely on the goal of taking Norway to a first World Cup since 1998.
Luis Suarez
Uruguay haven't missed a World Cup since 2006, when the Atletico Madrid striker was just 19 of age, but they look set to miss out in 2022.
Defeat to Argentina on Saturday leaves them outside even the play-off position for the CONMEBOL qualifying group, though they are level on points with Chile and Colombia.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Late defeat to Serbia on Sunday night not only infuriated the Manchester United ace, but also left his presence at the 2022 World Cup in the balance.
Portugal now face a spot in UEFA's qualifying play-offs and could face some tough rivals having failed to finish top of their group.
Robert Lewandowski
The same is true for Poland's greatest ever striker, as Poland finished second behind England in Group I, meaning they will also head to a play-off.
Poland only lost once in their whole qualifying campaign, to England at Wembley with a late Harry Maguire winner sealing their fate.
Thomas Partey
Ghana missed out on the 2018 World Cup and after three consecutive tournaments and could now miss out again in a tight group as they fight with South Africa for a qualifying spot.
Partey himself has missed four of the six qualifiers to date, with Ghana winning both games in which he featured.
Take Kubo
The Real Madrid loanee's Japan team sit third in their group and would face an inter-confederation play-off.
Saudi Arabia have swept the group but a shock defeat to Oman in September, with Kubo only coming on as a substitute, could prove costly.
