Man in the Arena vs. The Last Dance: Differences between Tom Brady's and Michael Jordan's series
As the first episode of "Man in the Arena", the biographical series about the career of quarterback Tom Brady, premiered last Tuesday, it is impossible not to compare it with "The Last Dance", which refers to the career of the famous former basketball player, Michael Jordan.
But according to what we have seen in the first chapter, we must avoid falling into the expectation of watching mirror series, because although both are about those who are considered the best exponents of their respective sports, the narrative and circumstances are opposite.
Difference 1.- Brady is not the center of the universe
In the case of "The Last Dance", Jordan for the first time opens up about the culmination of his glorious era with the Chicago Bulls and the story jumps in time to narrate, from the perspective of "Air Jordan" how things happened.
Instead, judging by the first chapter, in the format of "Man in the Arena", the quarterback of the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers gives up the center of the story with his teammates who led him to reach each of the 10 Super Bowls where he has participated.
Just a skinny little twerp out of Michigan
In this first chapter it was Drew Bledsoe and Willie McGinest who accompany "TB12" in the story of how Brady took advantage of Bledsoe's injury to take over the starting job in 2001 and beat the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI, and the best lines are rightly generated by Bledsoe.
"Just a skinny little twerp out of Michigan. I didn't perceive him as a threat," Bledsoe said of what he thought of Brady when he was drafted in the 2000 Draft.
Difference 2.- In "Man in The Arena" there will not be a Scottie Pippen
Another difference is that, in this series, it seems unlikely we'll see another Scottie Pippen, arguing against the point of the storyline, because unlike "MJ," this series isn't told solely from Brady's perspective.
"If Tommy was an [expletive], it would have been really, really hard to [accept] that. But he's not.", Bledsoe said about accepting the fact that Brady took the job away from him.
Difference 3.- Brady continues to write his story
The third difference in very clear, "The Last Dance" was given in the time that there was no sports activity due to the pandemic of COVID-19, on the other hand "Man in the Arena" is given not only with activity, but also Tom Brady plays the 2021 NFL season, his story is still being written.
