Mahomes' magic is back: Chiefs overwhelmed Raiders
The Kansas City Chiefs returned to the lead of the NFC West division by defeating the Las Vegas Raiders 41-14 on Sunday Night Football in "Sin City" with a Patrick Mahomes that brought back the magic of the past.
Mahomes led an unstoppable offense for the defending American Conference champions, completing 35 of the 50 passes he attempted for 406 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.
Five touchdown passes
The Chiefs quarterback's first touchdown pass was to open the scoring in the first quarter when he found All Pro receiver Tyreek Hill on an eight-yard scoring toss.
The Raiders tied the score with a six-yard touchdown pass from Derek Carr to wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, but from that point on, Las Vegas didn't compete.
In the second quarter, Kansas City scored 10 unanswered points, thanks to a 40-yard field goal by Harrison Butker and a one-yard pass from Mahomes for Hill's second touchdown of the game.
Just like old times
The Raiders pulled within three points in the third quarter when Carr caught his second scoring pass of the evening, this one a 37-yarder to Bryan Edwards.
But Mahomes said enough was enough and the Chiefs scored the final 24 points of the game.
In the third period there were 17 of those 24 points, two touchdown passes from Mahomes, a one-yarder to tight end Noah Gray and a 38-yarder to running back Darrel Williams plus Butker's second field goal, this one a 35-yarder.
The scoring was capped by Mahomes' fifth touchdown pass of the game, a 22-yarder to Byron Pringle in the fourth period.
Leaders of the AFC West
With this result, the Chiefs improved their record to 6-4, while the Raiders fell to 5-4.
