Do Bruce Arians' "dumb" Buccaneers have a remedy?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were coming off a bye week, facing one of the worst defenses so far this NFL season, the Washington Football Team, and an offensive exhibition was expected from the reigning NFL champions.
Instead we saw an erratic Tom Brady and a team dominated by an inferior opponent.
Unfiltered statements
We're a very dumb football team
Add to this disappointing performance by the defending Super Bowl champions the fact that their head coach, Bruce Arians, is not known for being politically correct when it comes to unfiltered statements, and you get this gem:
"It has nothing to do with ability," Arians said, per ESPN.com. "It's about execution and being a smart football team. We're a very dumb football team. And that's a reflection on the coaches."
Arians' criticism of his team was not limited to intelligence, he also spoke of an effort problem.
"It's very disappointing," Arians said. "It's very alarming to watch the energy at every practice and show up with a lack of execution and energy that it takes to win on Sunday. We've got a lot of soul-searching to do."
Two consecutive losses
The stupidity has to go away
The Buccaneers have lost for the first time this season and the alarm bell has been sounded by their own strategist, but Arians believes the situation is fixable.
"Energy and passion are very fixable," Arians said. "The penalties -- they've gotta get corrected sooner or later. The first play of the game -- they're shifting and we jump offsides. They don't even run a play and we jump offsides. The stupidity has to go away if we're gonna go anywhere."
