Did Tom Brady and the Buccaneers run out of gas?
Three weeks ago, most NFL experts were placing Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the top favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champions, after two games and a bye week in the middle, that perception has changed exponentially.
Does age work against Brady?
Losses to the New Orleans Saints and now to the Washington Football Team and, above all, uncharacteristic performances by the typically infallible Tom Brady raise the reasonable doubt, has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers run out of gas?
The issue is not only the two losses in a row, the surprising thing is that they have not lost against powers, New Orleans and Washington are definitely not, to that we must add that in each loss Brady has thrown two interceptions and that, in both cases, they have not faced quarterbacks close to the best in the NFL: Trevor Siemian and Taylor Heinicke.
It's a fact that the NFL is an extremely even league and that every team is susceptible to losing every week, but when you consider that Brady is 44 years old, the idea of a lack of energy is not far-fetched.
You have to remember that this week Tom Brady sat out of the 17th regular season game so the fatigue argument takes on more force.
Are we wrong to doubt Brady?
On the other hand, if there's one thing modern NFL history hasn't taught is that doubting Brady is one of the most common mistakes we all make, so despite all the arguments posted here, the ultimate Super Bowl winner deserves at least the benefit of the doubt.
Next week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will return home and will have an extra day of rest as they will host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, an important test to see what is the reality of the reigning NFL champions.
